Amygdaliá by Christina Phoebe with Q&A

May 10, 2025 8:00 pm

On May 10th, we are thrilled to show the film Amygdaliá! The director, Christina Phoebe, together with the film’s co-protagonists Lauretta Macauley and Gerta Dyle, will be at LALA to present the film and have a discussion and some music in a dj set after the screening. There will be a donation box as we will be fundraising for the new space of the United African Women Organization.
Amygdaliá premiered at the Thessaloniki Documentary Film Festival in 2019 and has traveled to many festivals and self-organised feminist, anti-racist and solidarity spaces in greece and internationally. Even if you’ve seen the film already, Amygdaliá is like a dream that we want to remember every now and then, as every screening and every discussion can bring out different feelings or memories.
The film will be screened in greek with english subtitles.
Doors open at 20:00
The screening will start at 20:30. Film duration: 76’

Film synopsis
Amygdaliá is a tree that blooms just before spring. It is also the word that haunts a young child when she first arrives in greece. In the curious world of Amygdaliá, people, places, and things come together and part ways as in a dream. A group of women begins to reveal fragmented memories within off-limits mediterranean landscapes. A film about belonging, estrangements, and borders, both around us and within us
