The Lullaby of Twisted Toons: horror, comedy and obsession in animation and stop-motion film

March 29, 2025 8:00 pm

LALA’s new event series explores how animation, often seen as lighthearted entertainment for children, can instead be a powerful medium for confronting trauma, dark dreams, and the subconscious. Far from passive amusement, these films use surreal visuals and unsettling storytelling to materialize fears, obsessions, and perverted memories in ways live-action cannot.

We start the series with a screening of The Wolf House (La casa lobo, 2018), a Chilean stop-motion horror inspired by the real-life case of Colonia Dignidad. Framed as an eerie propaganda film, it immerses viewers in a psychological nightmare of indoctrination and isolation.
