Betty / Nana: Trans Women Film Portaits

June 18, 2023 8:30 pm

ΛΑΛΑ presents a screening of two historical/archival portrait films of trans women in Greece. Dimitris Stravrakas’ “Betty” (1979) featuring and co-written by Betty Vakalidou is a mix of documentary and fiction, where Betty’s voice evokes her childhood, her daily life, pleasure and self-esteem, as well as social exclusion. Lara Christen’s “Nana” (2015) is an intimate, sensitive portrait of a seventy-year-old trans woman, Nana Chatzi, who lived in Thessaloniki. The combination of narrative, observation and archival footage creates an image of her chequered past, as well as the hard everyday life a trans person faces in Greek reality.

Entrance is free. Doors open at 20:30 and screening starts at 21:00.The films will be presented in Greek with EN subs.
